Split and ducted systems, ARC licence L196738
Air Conditioning Service and Repair on the Gold Coast
Servicing and repairs for split and ducted systems already in your home or business, with the electrical side handled by the same licensed team.
Dust, dirt and mould build up inside an air conditioner over time. Airflow drops, the unit works harder for the same result, and small faults grow. RES services and repairs split and ducted systems for homes and businesses across the Gold Coast up to Brisbane's north side, and the electrical work on the system is done by the same team.
Looking for a new system rather than a service? See our air conditioning installation page for split, ducted and multi-split options.
What an Air Conditioning Service Covers
Each visit works through the same five areas, on split and ducted systems alike. Parts are not part of the clean; if a check finds a fault, it is explained to you first.
Filters
Cleaned, for proper airflow and indoor air quality.
Coils, fins and fans
Cleaned and inspected to catch faults early.
Electrical connections
Checked and tightened.
Drain lines
Inspected and cleared of debris.
Thermostat and controls
Tested and calibrated.
Split and ducted systems share these checks. How they differ in layout and zoning is set out in ducted vs split system air conditioning.
Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs a Service or Repair
These are what owners usually notice first. They describe what you see, not what is wrong: the cause is found on site.
Not cooling or heating properly
The room takes much longer to reach temperature, or never gets there.
Weak airflow
Air from the indoor unit or the ducted vents is weaker than it used to be.
Water around the indoor unit
Water dripping from the indoor unit or pooling underneath it.
New or unusual noises
Rattling, buzzing or other sounds from the indoor or outdoor unit.
Musty smell when it starts
A stale or musty smell from the air when the system switches on.
Won’t start or trips the power
No response from the unit, or the switchboard trips when it runs.
Burning smell, sparks or a unit that keeps tripping the switchboard? Turn the unit off and use the 24/7 emergency line.
What You Can Safely Do Yourself
Owners can look after the filters. Everything involving refrigerant or wiring is for a licensed technician.
Between services, wipe down and clean the filters and dust around the indoor and outdoor units to keep the system efficient.
Wipe vents, filters and louvres without harsh cleaning fluids.
Book a regular service by a licensed technician, ideally before peak use in late spring or autumn.
Don't open the unit, touch the refrigerant pipes or work on the wiring. Handling refrigerant needs a refrigerant handling licence, and wiring is electrical work that needs an electrical licence.

Why Servicing and Electrical Work Sit Together
Handling refrigerant takes a refrigerant handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council, and connecting an air conditioner to power is electrical work that takes an electrical licence. RES holds both, ARC licence L196738 and QLD electrical licence 92423.
That matters when the fault is not in the unit. A dedicated circuit that trips (see safety switch installation), or a switchboard short of capacity for the system, is fixed by the same electricians, not a second trade. More on our residential electrical services.
Air conditioning is also a large part of summer power use in many Gold Coast homes. If you are weighing up solar, it is worth reading how system size is matched to your real consumption.

What's Involved in an Air Conditioning Service Visit
The same four steps apply to a yearly service and to a repair call-out.

Clean and inspect
Filters, coils, fins, fans and drain lines are cleaned, inspected and cleared.
Check the electrics and controls
Electrical connections are checked and tightened, and the thermostat is tested.
Report and repair
Any fault found is explained before work goes ahead, then repaired or replaced as agreed.

Split, Ducted and Multi-Split Systems Across the Coast
Houses. Ducted systems in established estates such as Robina, and split systems in bedrooms and additions.
Apartments. Multi-head systems where condenser space is limited, as in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Work that touches common property needs committee approval, so check early.

What does an air conditioning service include?
Filters are cleaned for proper airflow and indoor air quality. Coils, fins and fans are cleaned and inspected to catch faults early. Electrical connections are checked and tightened, drain lines inspected and cleared of debris, and the thermostat and controls tested and calibrated.
How often should I service my air conditioner?
The Australian Government advises a regular service by a licensed technician, ideally before peak use in late spring or autumn, with the filters wiped clean and the indoor and outdoor units dusted in between.

Can I install or repair a split system myself?
No. Installing a split system involves handling refrigerant, which requires a refrigerant handling licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council, and connecting it to power is electrical work that requires an electrical licence. You can clean the filters, but leave the rest to a licensed technician.

What are the signs a ducted system needs a service?
Common signs are weaker airflow from the vents, rooms that no longer reach temperature, unusual noises, a musty smell when it starts, water around the indoor unit, or a unit that will not start. These describe what you notice, not the cause, which is found during the service.
Do you service split and ducted systems?
Yes, both, for homes and businesses on the Gold Coast up to Brisbane’s north side. The service covers the same checks on each, from filters and coils to electrical connections and controls.
