Commercial EV Charger Installation on the Gold Coast
Supply and switchboard checked on site first, so the charger plan fits the building.
Ryder Electrical Services installs EV chargers for workplaces, shops, fleet bays and shared car parks across the Gold Coast up to Brisbane's north side. It is the business side of our EV charger installation service, and it sits alongside the rest of our commercial electrical work.
With one charger the question is where it goes. With several, the question is whether the building's supply can run them together, which is why the site assessment comes before any charger is chosen.
What the Site Assessment Covers
Four things decide how a commercial charger install goes. We check each on site before quoting, so the plan is built around the building you have.
Supply capacity
How much capacity the building has at the meter, and how much of it the chargers can use alongside everything else on site.
Switchboard
Room for dedicated charger circuits with their own protection, on a board that is sound. A full or outdated board is dealt with first.
Single-phase or three-phase
A single-phase supply comes in on 3 wires. A three-phase supply uses 5 wires and carries more electricity, which matters once several chargers share it. We confirm which you have from the meter and switchboard.
Bay layout and cable routes
Where each charger mounts, and a route from the board that the cable can follow and be protected along, across a car park, up a wall or under a slab.

Several chargers, one supply
Planning Many Chargers Around the Supply
A multi-bay install is planned around the building's supply. With several cars plugged in at once, load management shares the available capacity between bays instead of every charger drawing full current together.
Where the board has no room for the charger circuits, or the supply is already stretched, the first job may be a switchboard upgrade. A larger connection is arranged with your electricity distributor or retailer, and the work at your property is done by a licensed electrician.
Questions we settle before quoting
- How many bays, and how many cars will be plugged in at the same time.
- Whether the supply and switchboard can take the chargers as they are.
- Whether load management should share the capacity between bays.
- Whether more bays are likely to be added later, so the cabling suits them.

Workplace, Fleet and Customer Charging
Workplaces. Chargers for staff who park for the day, planned around how many bays the building's supply can feed.
Fleet bays. Vehicles that return to the same place each night, where the supply and the cable route to each bay matter most.
Shops and customer car parks. Chargers placed where visitors can reach them, with the cable run protected along its route.
Have solar on the roof? A solar installation can be planned alongside the chargers so both are designed against the same switchboard.
EV Charging for Strata Car Parks
In a strata building the car park is usually common property, so the committee needs to be involved before any electrical work is booked. We check where the power will come from and the cable route to the bays, then quote the work in writing so the committee can see exactly what is proposed.
This page covers charging for the building as a whole. If you are a single owner after a charger for your own bay, see EV chargers in apartments and townhouses. For the rest of the building's electrical work, see our strata electrician service and strata and body corporate work.
Worth settling with the committee
- Where the chargers draw their power: a common supply or an individual lot.
- The cable route from the board to the bays through common areas.
- Whether the building's supply can take more chargers as demand grows.
- How the work is quoted and approved, so the committee sees exactly what is proposed.
These are practical questions, not legal rules. Your strata manager or body corporate can tell you which approval process applies to your building.

Common Questions
Commercial EV Charging FAQs
Do I need a licensed electrician to install a commercial EV charger?
Yes. In Queensland, installing an EV charger is electrical work, and electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Doing it without a licence is an offence under the Electrical Safety Act 2002.

Will my building's supply handle several EV chargers?
It depends on the supply and the switchboard, which is why we assess both on site first. A single-phase supply comes in on 3 wires and a three-phase supply on 5, with more capacity. Where the supply is tight, load management or a larger connection through your distributor are the options.

Can chargers be added to a strata car park?
Common property work needs your committee involved, so raise it with your strata manager before any electrical work is booked. Once you have the go-ahead, we assess where the power will come from and the cable route to the bays, then quote the work in writing for the committee.

What paperwork comes with a commercial EV charger install?
Once the chargers and their circuits are tested, the licensed electrical contractor must give you a certificate of testing and safety. It records what was tested, the test date and the contractor licence number, and certifies the installation is electrically safe.
